case studies

These are a few examples of e2x engagements that demonstrate the type of service we offer to our clients.

Consultancy Support of a Project Team delivering an Web E-Commerce System

e2x provided consultancy to improve the development and delivery processes of a team split between the UK and US, whilst simultaneously helping them improve the architecture and implementation of their system. e2x assisted in the delivery of two major releases using our recommended iterative development approach and introduced associate experts to tackle specific technical issues. The e-commerce system was based on the ATG application server and product stack.

Review of a Project delivering a Strategically Important Front-Office System

e2x conducted a review of a project that had been successfully delivering a strategically important front-office trading system for a large investment bank. The e2x review covered all aspects of the project and the system including the people (organisation, skills, role, etc.), the development process they used, the technology they delivered (a bespoke C++ application with back-office system integration) and the strategy for evolving both the team and the technology. e2x delivered the review using an agile process and helped the bank to ensure the projects continued success.

Large-Scale Agile Project to deliver Global Internet Platform

e2x ran a long-term (over 4 years) agile development project for a large multi-national corporation. The project team size was approximately 80 people consisting of a mixture of e2x consultants (playing key leadership and management roles), e2x associates (augmenting these leadership roles), contractors and client employees. The project achieved its twin objectives of continuously delivering releases - every 10 weeks - of a business-critical system whilst simultaneously improving the skills of client employees prior to transitioning the key roles to those employees. The internet platform was based on the ATG application server and product stack and, in addition to the front-end B2C and B2B services, incorporated content and catalogue management, online and offline relationship management, and web-services interfaces capabilities.

Agile Offshore Outsourcing to deliver Large-Scale Intranet System

e2x ran an 18-month project that used an iterative/agile process to deliver a new intranet system for a very large organisation with 250,000+ employees. The system was wholly implemented, deployed and maintained by four third-party outsource organisations, the main one of which was based offshore, with e2x consultants providing project, programme, and technical management and leadership. The i ntranet system was based on Microsoft products and .Net technology to provide content management and publication, online collaboration, and business specific services.

Agile Delivery of a Fixed-Price Contract

e2x delivered a web-services based system on a wholly-outsourced, fixed-price basis. The project ran for six months and delivered weekly 'review releases' and a production release every month. 'Change control' was managed using standard agile techniques allowing the customer to freely change their priorities and the detail of requirements, with de-prioritised functionality falling outside of the scope of the fixed-price contract. The project was delivered in two distinct phases - to ensure that must-have requirements were implemented and then as many as the nice-to-have requirements were added as made economic sense - by two e2x consultants and two associates.
